Call for Workshops at IUCr 2023

The Local Organising Committee for IUCr 2023 is now accepting expressions of interest to hold workshops for IUCr 2023 delegates immediately prior to the Congress.

Such workshops should not act as another meeting/symposium session and must not promote a single commercial product.

Expressions of interest should be completed via the below form by midnight (AEST) on Thursday 21 July 2022

Express your interest to run a Workshop at IUCr 2023

The Local Organising Committee of IUCr 2023 is excited to announce that they are now accepting expressions of interest for individuals or groups to hold workshops immediately prior to the Congress. Workshops will be held on Monday 21 and Tuesday 22 August 2023 using space provided by the Congress within the MCEC. Workshops can be half-day, full-day or two full days in length and should be unique content that would fall outside the usual meeting and symposium format occurring during the Congress itself. Workshops must conclude in time for the Congress's opening ceremony on 22 August 2023. Note that although the Congress will provide space for these workshops, catering and any other special arrangements must be provided by the Workshop organisers. Workshops will only be open to those who register to attend the Congress and online registration facilities will be provided by the Local Organising Committee.

Satellite Meetings 

Satellite meetings can be held anywhere in the world in the period before or after the 26th Congress. They may or may not charge registration (or other) fees, but these payments are not connected with the Congress. No satellite meetings should be held on the first day of the Congress (22 August). Organisers of the Satellite Meetings are welcome to contact the Local Organising Committee ( if they wish the particulars of their meetings to be advertised on the Congress website.

Expressions of Interest must include the following information to be considered:

  1. Title of workshop
  2. Duration of the workshop (half-day, full day or two full days)
  3. Names and contact information of the organiser
  4. IUCr commission or organisation most aligned with the proposed workshop
  5. A detailed description of the workshop and a statement of how this benefits the crystallographic community (max 300 words)
  6. An estimate of the expected number of participants
  7. Any special requirements of the workshop (in-person delivery with standard AV facilities available automatically, unless otherwise requested)

Please note that IUCr 2023 is only able to host workshops on Monday 21 and Tuesday 22 August 2023. Any workshops extending a 2-day timeframe will not be able to be accommodated.

Additionally, catering for workshops will not be provided by IUCr 2023, so if any catering is required (including tea and coffee) this will be at the cost of the workshop organisers, or an additional registration fee from attendees will be required.
